Socio Economic Rights
----------------------------------------------------

CSJ works towards creating enabling conditions for socio-economic empowerment and enhancing the capability of marginalized groups to advocate for themselves so that they can claim their rights and seek public accountability. We believe that socio – economic rights are legitimized claims and the state has an obligation to respect, protect and fulfill these rights. Issues covered under socio-economic rights and achievements are:

Right to Health:
Constitution of India and international conventions has provisions related to right to health. India has special schemes named National Rural Health mission especially for rural india but Gujarat has highly inequitable health system which denies quality health care to all those who cannot effort it. Key barriers to good health are not the lack of technology but poverty and health system inequity. CSJ has succeeded in activating village level health committees.

Right to Food:
As a socio-legal organization CSJ took up right to food to give legal angle to right to food interim order, measures to monitoring, implement and building accountability for right to food issue.
Initially to know the status of implementation of supreme courts guidelines on right to food a survey was conducted. Based on the survey report representations were made to various district and state level authorities. As a result High Court of Gujarat appointed legal aid lawyer to assist victims in Modasa district of Gujarat. CSJ has succeeded in implementing Supreme Courts guidelines both at district and state level by government promising to open aganwadis, justifying ration shops, initiating mobile ration shops, suspending lincenses for mal practices in ration shops and High Court of Gujarat has filed a Suo Moto in right to food matter based on 70 letters petitions from 70 villages from Dangs, Navsari, Amreli, Bharuch, Sabarkatha, Banaskatha.

CSJ is also a member a network named Aann Suraksha Adhikar and is providing professional services as and when required by the network and its members.

Right to Information: Information adds new to our awareness and removes the vagueness of our ideas. Since Right to Information Act is
passed CSJ is actively involved in spreading awareness among people about their right to use this act and implementation of Act. CSJ and
its law centres are strategically using right to information as a tool to collect informations.

National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA): NREGA was passed in 2006 since than CSJ along with other organization is monitoring the implementation of the Act. RTI is used to seek information for monitoring state action for its implementation and for conducting social audit.

CSJ is one of the first organization of Gujarat to initiated implementation of new wage policy i.e. Rs.100/day in its Law Centre. Based on applications made by Law Centres of CSJ villagers were provided Job Cards and jobs on demand.
